NYC nombre deux

The food the food, it’s ALL about the food (& fashion too). There is so much amazing food in NYC, we stumbled upon the most delicious meal we had in NYC when visiting this place…

Dave loves the show Oddities and when he found out we were staying nearby we had to pop in. When we arrived they were closed for 20 minutes for filming and the woman on door watch recommended that we grab a bite at Xi’an Famous Foods and OMG I’m soooo happy we did. Mostly because now Dave cannot deny his love and desire to return to NYC, if for nothing else, this AMAZING food. They’ve gotten rave reviews from Athony Bourdain along with others. We tried two amazing dishes pictured below. The spicy hot oil seared hand-ripped noodles and our favorite dish ever, the stewed pork burger which is OMG amazing! Please do yourself and your taste buds a favor and try this place the next time you visit NYC!

“Gourmet Comfort Food”

So last Friday we celebrated finally closing on our new home with dinner at Max’s Wine Dive. We’ve been there another time….the fried chicken is was what sold us. This time we tried the Chef’s summer menu with “small  plates” for sharing……we ordered up a few small plates along with the fried chicken of course…..it was a yummy experience and we plan on making our own rendition of a few of the dishes we tried.

We started with a light mixed green salad, with quinoa, cucumbers & topped with mango (& other goodness)

Next up, savory Carolina style bbq pork cheeks (had a little kick) over corn cakes & a refreshing salad of  jicama & watermelon

Dave wants to replicate this one….the roasted quail w/ elote style corn, okra, smoked tomato creme fraiche w/ peach butter and bacon marmalade…..soooooo tast-EE

The last plate was the fried chicken over mashed potatoes w/ collard greens & a chipotle honey dipping sauce (Gwen loved it)….we will definitely make the honey sauce!

For dessert…..homemade banana pudding served up in a cute little jar

& the 1/2 & 1/2…..brownie and bread pudding topped with yummy ice-cream

Another great food experience…….we wanna try the brunch next time @ Max’s Wine Dive…Have you been?

A side of roasted veggies

I’m not the head Chef around these parts; I’m typically the Sous Chef to Dave or the occasional dessert maker/baker gal. Recently I decided to play Chef and I’m kinda proud of myself…..

I should’ve taken a few more photos but we were hungry. I saw a quick photo titled “Salmon wrapped in prosciutto” somewhere online and decided I’d try just that.

I baked it in the oven along with a mix of fresh veggies (40 mins for the veggies at 375 & 20 mins for the salmon). It was good and healthy!! I do need to work on plate presentation.

What do you serve with your roasted veggies?

Weekend photos….

There goes another food filled weekend….

Told ya so!

1. We FINALLY tried Lucy’s Fried Chicken

2. The fried chicken, sad to say the breading was SOOOOOOO salty….it’s bad when Dave complains about salt

3. Collard greens, stole the show….mac & cheese, next please :-/

4. I had the Lucy Basilia (Dripping Springs Vodka, Honey, Lemon Juice, Basil Leaves & Blackberry)…mmmmm

& Dave had an Austin Beer Works – Pearl Snap.

Although we weren’t thrilled with our first visit, Lucy’s has a playful menu…we will be back for another try…maybe for lunch….I’d like to try the “Shoofly” pie.

5. Cajun crab cakes from the seafood counter at Whole Foods

6. Dave made Mr. B’s BBQ shrimp…..we’re missing New Orleans, can you tell?

What yummy goodness did you enjoy over the weekend?

The Big Easy

Two restaurants I HIGHLY recommend in New Orleans….

COMMANDER’S PALACE

(we made our way through the kitchen to exit the restaurant, I wanted to kiss the chef/s)

We tried Mr. B’s for lunch and I think I found my favorite savory dish in NOLA

Mr. B’s BBQ Shrimp

(just know that worcestershire and butter are 2 prominent ingredients)

They bib you up, so no holding back….dig in and enjoy the intense flavors in this dish….

I can’t wait to go back for more!

We also shared the Gumbo Ya-Ya & Crispy Fried Oysters….mmmmm

Love the presentation

& Dinner @ Award winning Commander’s Palace…need I say more.

We chose THE CHEF’S PLAYGROUND menu, here’s some of my faves from this 9 course meal

Veloute of Blue Crab (aka de-lish-us soup topped with caviar, um yeah)

Foie Gras “Du Monde” (the mini-beignets and cafe au lait made me fall in love)

Creole Bread Pudding Souffle “The Queen of Creole Desserts”

I die for this amazing-ness, especially the whiskey sauce topper

Now that I’ve made myself drool over this culinary magic….I leave you with this quote….

as I struggled physically & emotionally through this amazing meal at Commander’s Palace, Dave suggested:

“You have to submit to the food, allow yourself to respond in your on way!” (I love this man)

Happy Eats to All.
